Focus (2015) review

I have just seen the new Will Smith con film Focus and I must say that I enjoyed this film.

This film sees a con man going about his work until an old lover walks back into his life and turns it upside down.

Now will Smith has got some hate for his last film after earth but I am happy to report that he is back to being will Smith in this film. He is so charismatic and he is an interesting damaged character in this film that makes you truly want to root for him even though he is a con artist.

Margot Robbie is not just a pretty face this and her role in The wolf of wall street proves that this girl can act. She was also great in this film with her playing the con artist perfectly and her chemistry with Smith was great and the real backbone of the film. I do wish however, that there had been a villain worthy of taking on and trying to con them and that would have probably added to the film.

The first half of the story is great with them committing cons and Margot Robbie being trained by will Smith is really interesting but then the second half of the film happens. It becomes too convoluted and it just slows down allot and crawlers crawls to the finish line.

The script was probably the biggest surprise of this movie as it really worked and all the dialogue was funny, witty and interesting. It really made these characters feel alive and great personalities despite what they do.

The style of the cons was good and the different locations in the film helps it allot. But I always had the problem that the soundtrack plays over allot of the dialogue and it just takes  you out of the film.

Overall I liked this film and was better then I expected and if you like con movies then you might enjoy this film.
