I have seen the new episode of Gotham and I think it is about time I spoke about it. Spoiler alert if you have not seen the episode yet.
The premise of episode sees Jim Gordon back in the gcpd looking into a killer over the drug dealings in Gotham. Meanwhile, penguin and fish continue to have their conflict over power.
Ben McKenzie has had a bit of criticism from me so far but he deserves credit because this was a great performance in this episode and he was a great character that the audience could root for.
Donald Logue is great as Harvey bullock and his chemistry with McKenzie is improving and their relationship is the best part of the show. This was the first episode as well that I bought jada Pinkett Smith as a mobster and her character took some interesting turns that can lead to more interesting circumstances. The character of the penguin has been great all season but in the last few episodes they have made penguin a weak character which makes sense but it doesn't mean I am a big fan about it.
The problem I have with Gotham is the speed that the main story is moving at and that continued in this episode. With Gordon and Tompkins hooking up last episode I thought that would provide an interesting angle but that was completely ignored this episode. Also there are quite a few stories still going on and the show doesn't give most of them enough screen time for us to care and makes me feel like they should have left them to season 2. I did find it interesting that bullock and fish are lovers because I didn't really see that coming and again that could add up to something interesting.
The script had more humour in this episode but also I felt like the drama worked for the episode and make this feel like an important episode.
The style of Gotham is great but I do hope they improve there action is improved like arrow in the future.
Overall this episode was good but there are still problems with the series.
