Birdman review (2015)

It is my aim that before the Oscars that I will watch all the best picture nominations and I have now seen birdman and I think it is fantastic.

This story sees a washed up actor deciding to direct and star in a Broadway show in an attempt to get over his former fame as a big comic book star.

Now Michael keaton is one of my favourite actors and I believe that this is his best ever performance. This is because his character in this film is kinda like Michael Keaton in real life after being batman. This performance is worthy of an Oscar and I truly believe he will win the Oscar for his role in this film.

The supporting cast is also fantastic, Edward Norton plays an actor who truly emphasises the Hollywood ideal in this film. He plays the douchebag well and you accept that he is just a different actor to everyone else in the film. Emma stone plays keatons daughter and she is great in the film as a damaged character that feels like she is misunderstood by her father. Zach galifanakis plays his best friend and he is great comedy value for the film but can also be quite serious.

The story is fantastic as it truly looks into the real world and how the film industry is these days. It looks into big Hollywood blockbusters and how they affect an actors true potential and this is true with the Indies aswell and I am glad a film finally had the guts to make this real life situation into its narrative.

The script is great with a really good blend of humour and drama which really made the film flow and made these characters feel like real people.

The style is incredibly unique, from the beginning of the film it is shot to be all one take and it is great, it makes the film feel alive and ever moving and makes it feel alive. However, there are some real pacing issues at times and does hurt the overall quality of the film.

Overall this is a fantastic film that everybody should go and see especially if you hate the film industry at the moment.
