Whiplash review (2015)

With the Oscars coming up I have finally seen best picture nominated whiplash and I must say that this film is not only my favourite film of 2015 so far but this may be one of the best films I have ever seen.

This film sees a young inspiring drummer in music school and he moves into the top class but clashes with a radical teacher who attempts to get the best out of his students by any means necessary.

I've seen miles teller in a few things and have always thought he was a decent actor mainly in comedy but little did I know this fantastic dramatic actor was inside of him this entire time. He does such a good job in this film as his character is ridiculously relatable as we have all wanted something so badly that we are willing to do anything to get it and he is willing to give up his life for drumming. His chemistry with jk Simmons is also phenomenal and carries this whole film, I tell you that if the fantastic four film is good he will have a major say in it.

Now there is only one other performance in this film to worry about and that is the absolutely breathtaking performance by JK simmons in this film. He is possibly the biggest douche ever put in film but I actually understand where he is coming from in some way. His character is understandable because he is just using his own methods to try get the best out of his students and just watching these two clash provides intensity that I have rarely seen.

Yes there is music involved in this film but that is hardly what the film is about, this film is about the determination to become the best in your field and how much you are willing to sacrifice to get there. Seeing these two clash over something they love is inspiring and really intense to watch and I just couldn't get enough of it. This story really is simple but has so many layers to it to make this the thing that drives this story forward.

The script is fantastic, all the dialogue from teller and Simmons was so natural and fantastic that it just brings you In and makes you feel like you truly know these two characters.

The style is great, the physical and mental implications make this film the dramatic juggernaut that it truly is and will make you feel the tension that the fantastic end of this film provides.

Overall this is an epic film and one I hope the Oscars give full credit too.
