Thor review (2011)

The next marvel film to review is possibly the hardest film to do about the thunder God Thor and this film came out great.

The story sees the rash heir to the asgardian throne Thor being stripped of his power and banished to earth to learn humility and become the true God of thunder.

Now before this film Chris hemsworth was an unknown actor to the public but this is the role that has made him a big movie star. He was great as Thor he was a great action star when he needed to be, he was arrogant when he needed to be and he was relatable when he needed to be. It was a performance that made this God a really interesting character and a great member of this universe.

The supporting cast is a bit of a mixed bag though, Tom hiddleston was also not a big actor at this point but he took the role of Loki and made it truly memorable. His performance was great and he really encapsulated the emotion that Loki has in the comics. Anthony Hopkins was a fantastic choice as Odin and I cannot imagine a different person being Odin, he really encapsulated the father figure that Odin is. However, Natalie Portman is in the film and since the star wars prequels unfortunately she has not delivered her best work. This film is the same, her romance with Thor didn't work for me and I really felt she was a force in the film and wasn't really necessary and I didn't believe it was the reason that Thor changed. I also felt that skellan skarsgarrd was a bit of a throwaway character and his acting ability wasn't used in the best way.

The story is also a bit of a mixed bag. I really liked the brother feud between Thor and Loki and also loki's story was really interesting. However, I just didn't buy thor's quick transition on earth and how it made him the true God of thunder in this film. I also felt that Thor wasn't the true character of Thor for that much of the film and it hurt the film.

The script was great, there was actually allot of humour in this film and I actually think it worked for the most part in the film. There was also some big drama in the film and it really worked in the film.

The style was great in this film, yes there is allot of cgi used in the Asgard parts but that was necessary and it worked because it was necessary to show the marvel of it. The fight choreography worked in the film mostly as well even though I thought it could have been improved.

Overall you should see Thor and it is definitely worth being a part of this universe.
