I know I have just recently reviewed the first season of arrow but i felt I had to jump in and finish rewatching season 2 and get that review out.
The story sees Oliver queen return to startling city after the undertaking to clean up starling. Until an old friend returns to seek revenge for events that happened in the past.
Stephen amell is back as Oliver queen and he does even better in this series as his character really goes through allot of different emotional journeys with different characters and it shows his qualities that he manages to have such good chemistry with everybody. He also keeps up the action part of his character and the fight choreography of the arrow is even better as his character evolves to try and become closer to the green arrow character from the comics.
The supporting cast also keeps up the high standards with felicity's character becoming more important in this series and being somewhat of a moral compass for Oliver. But this series brings diggle forward as the true moral compass and his character grows especially with the suicide squad episode. Laurels story was really interesting and the way her character is treated was fantastic and makes us feel more connected to laurels character. The characters of thea and moira was great as the season progressed with moiras redemption arc really working and theas growth being shown. The arc for Roy Harper is great too because he is a character that has evolved from the first season that we care about more. The new cast is great too with caity lotz as black canary, Kevin alejandro as brother blood and summer glau as Isobel roshev. But once again the show stealer is Manu Bennett as slade Wilson/deathstroke. This is easily the best portrayal of deathstroke there has ever been, we see in the flashback scenes him descending too madness and then in real time we see the awesome deathstroke character come to life.
The story picks up from the first season, the first half uses on the character development and the league of assassins which is cool but when deathstroke arrives in present day that is when the present day story picks up and the theme of friendship really is shown. The flashback scenes are so much better this season and I really links to present day and has a massive pay off to the overall story.
The script is much better this season with all of it working and linking well with all the themes of the characters and how the realistic dialogue would go in a realistic world.
The style is excellent with the fight choreography improved and helping build on the story parts. The dark gritty tone really works and provides a different look for the arrow character in the comics and I much prefer this character.
