Iron man review (2008)

With the avengers age of ultron coming out in April in the UK I thought I would review all the marvel cinematic universe films and to do that we must start with the film that started it all Iron Man.

The premise of this film sees billionaire weapons merchant Tony stark on the verge of death and kidnapped by terrorists. He creates an iron suit to escape and when he gets home he decides to change his ways and become the iron man.

Now this film really changed Robert Downey jnr's career and saved it after controversy. He is fantastic as stark especially with his fast paced dialogue fully fitting the character so when he changes it feels real but he still keeps the quick whitted dialogue that makes us fall in love with this character.

The supporting cast is also fantastic which helps us because everybody's chemistry is great in this film and is the best part of the film. Gwyneth paltrow plays pepper Potts and as I have always said that the chemistry between paltrow and Downey is the best in comic book history and she really brings out the other side of Starks character. Obviously we all know about the controversy with Terence Howard as James Rhodes but for this film he is fantastic. The chemistry that him and Downey have is great and you really feel the friendship and their relationship is another great layer to this film. Jeff bridges plays obidiah stane who does well as the villain and his relationship with stark provides an interesting story and he is a great villain for this first film.

The story is great with this being an important story for marvel. It shows a man changing for the better and having to deal with all the people he has hurt and try to make it better. Also I love that even though the film is called iron man it is clear that this film is all about Tony stark and how it is the man and not the suit that makes him a hero. The only complaint I have ever heard about this film is that it slows down with the cave scenes. But I believe that it is some of the best character development scenes in a comic book film.

The script is fantastic with the dialogue feeling natural and Downey being hilarious with every sentence he makes. The other characters have really good dialogue also and it helps make all the characters interesting.

The style is really cool with the look of the iron man suit being really cool and the designs are great. I was quite surprised that all the action is smooth and it is great and easy to watch which is a big compliment.

Overall this film is utterly fantastic and everything about it hits the right way and really started this universe in the best way.
