Sunderland mid season review 2014 - 2015

Next up for a review is Sunderland

How their recruitment went - not a very interesting summer for Sunderland which will probably be remembered for their failure to sign Liverpool striker Fabio borini. They signed costel pantillimon in goal and he is impressed and made himself the number one choice. Patrick van annholt joined from Chelsea and has done okay at left back. Santiago vergini stayed at the club after his loan spell and has done decent. Jordi Gomez signed from Wigan and has done alright in Sunderland midfield.

How they have performed - uninspired to say the least, Sunderland are the draw specialists with more draws then anybody else and they have struggled to pick up wins even though they did win the Tyne wear Derbyshire against Newcastle.

How the manager has done - similarly to Paul Lambert at Aston villa I see Gus poyet as doing the best job possible with the players he has. His team are set up well defensively and he needs his strikers to start firing and they will get the results they need.

Star player - Adam Johnson, the winger does have his spells of hot and cold but recently he has been mostly hot and is sunderlands top scorer this season and has been their most creative player this season and they will need him to keep up his form for them to have a good season.

What they need to improve - they need to score More goals which is clear, the striker need to start being more clinical but they also need more support from the midfield and more creative play from the midfield. I believe they need to delve into the transfer market in January.

Final positioning - 16th
