X-Men Days Of Future Past review (2014)

I am a huge X-Men fan but even I can accept there are some bad films in the franxhise. Luckily this is not one of them in fact this is the best X-Men film ever put on the screen.

The movie starts out in the future and the mutant race is being destroyed by the sentinels a self adapting machine race. So to stop this war old magneto and old professor Xavier send wolverine back to 1973 to meet their young versions and stop mystique from causing this dark war from ever taking place.

Now before this film some people were complaining about Hugh jackman still being the main character in these films but he is still fantastic as wolverine and makes the character feel different to any other version of wolverine that we have had on the big screen. After his great performance in the wolverine film and this one I hope Hugh jackman stays wolverine for many more films yet.

The supporting cast is also out of this world. When I saw X-Men first class I liked Jennifer Lawrence as mystique but I never felt like she owned the role. But in this film my goodness she owns the role and becomes the most developed character mystique has ever been. You see her inner demons coming through and her love for both Charles and Erick making her conflicted to the point that you really sympathise with he character. James mcavoy and Michael fassbender return in their roles as young Xavier and magneto and they both kill it. The journeys they are on are so interesting and this film expands on what first class did and make these two of the most interesting characters in all of film right now. It also helps that these two have insane chemistry together and you really feel the emotion out of them. The original cast with Patrick Stewart and Ian mckellen are back and they are great too and you see a slightly different relationship between the two and once again they have insane chemistry that makes them capable of this. Peter dinklage is great as Bolivar trask and you totally understand his motivations for what he is doing and why he feels his way. Nicholas hoult was good as beast too and the rest of the cast from previous films do a really good job. But the showstealer is quicksilver, before the film I thought he was gonna suck but my goodness he blew me away and Evan Peters deserves huge credit for that.

Allot of the time, time travel stories can be a bit all over the place but Bryan singer encapsulated it perfectly with his detection of the future and the past being perfect. I loved the segways between the two time frames and it really worked and never left me confused for a minute. I also loved the individual s that everyone had to go on whether it be wolverines or mystiques or Charles or magneto all of it worked and proved that it can be done. Also the ending of this film manages to save the X-Men franchise and makes me confident for future films.

The script is great I thought it had the perfect mix of drama and humour to make all these characters serious but also make them funny and make them relatable to us as people even though they are mutants.

The style is great as I said before the future looks perfect for the tone they were setting and I hope terminator takes a few cues from it. The 1970s portions were really good too with the camera filters to make it feel real and just making you feel like you are there with the characters.

Overall this is my favourite X-Men film ever and I must say at the moment it is the best film that I saw in 2014 so if you haven't seen it then first watch the previous X-Men films then watch this masterpiece.
